James Agbey, a leading figure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding any attempts to manipulate the 2024 elections.
His comments follow the provocative statement by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, who, during a campaign rally in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, declared that the NPP would do “whatever it takes” to secure victory.
Agbey criticized the NPP for its repeated threats and alleged plans to hold on to power through questionable means.
He referenced similar remarks made by other NPP leaders, such as Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), emphasizing the NDC’s resolve to protect Ghana’s democratic process.
“This latest threat from Bryan Acheampong follows a pattern of similar statements from Wontumi and other top NPP officials.
“Wontumi has openly claimed that the NPP has a million ways to win elections and will stop at nothing to secure the 2024 victory,” Agbey stated.
He further declared, “We are fully aware of the NPP’s ongoing agenda to illegitimately hang on to power in 2024, even though it’s clear Ghanaians no longer want them in office.
“The NPP doesn’t have a single brave man in their party. In contrast, the NDC, the party of Rawlings, is full of brave men.
“We won’t allow the NPP to intimidate the nation or undermine our democracy.”
