The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, says he is not surprised at the results of a survey conducted by Global Info Analytics which projects that 65% of voters believe Ghana is heading in the wrong direction.

Again, 62% disapprove of President Akufo-Addo’s performance while 52% believe the government has performed very poorly.

Speaking on JoyNews, Mr. Gyamfi stated that Ghanaians are witnesses of the current hardship under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo led administration is also nothing to write home about.

“Like Bob Marley said, he who feels it knows it best. And they feel the hardship. They feel the deterioration of the economy. I think it is even an understatement and that the numbers could be higher than that.

“Because today, whether it’s the price of fuel, whether it’s the price of basic food commodity, building materials, clothing, the basic necessities of life, inflation is high.

“It is so high that the majority of Ghanaians are not able to cope because they are not seeing any improvement in their disposable income. Yet prices continue to rise,” he said.

In addition to the economic challenges facing the country, Mr. Gyamfi cited the public debt situation as another example of the NPP government’s failure.

He highlighted the high lending rate and the depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the U.S. dollar.

“Today you need GHȼ13.50 to buy a dollar and this is having an impact on the capital and profit margins on businesses. So what do you expect?

“You clearly must expect a vote of no confidence from the electorate irrespective of their political affiliation because they are feeling it. All business men whether they are NPP or NDC or CPP are feeling the negative impact of the high cost of fuel, high lending rate, the unprecedented unemployment rate of 14.7%, and the debt crisis we have on our hands.

“So I’m not surprised at all that 65% of voters according to this poll are saying the country is headed in the wrong direction,” he said.
