Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, has criticised the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing it of causing the frequent power cuts, commonly known as ‘dumsor,’ despite the problem being resolved during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Buah, who previously served as the Minister of Energy attributed the current situation to what he described as incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption under the current administration.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio, Buah criticized the government’s handling of the energy crisis, particularly its failure to provide a load-shedding timetable to enable Ghanaians plan their lives.

He attributed the challenges in power generation to the government’s alleged inability to procure sufficient fuel for thermal plants due to financial constraints.

Buah emphasized the investments made by the previous Mahama administration in the energy sector, including the establishment of the Ameri Plant and Karpowership, which he claimed played crucial roles in resolving the energy crisis before Mahama left office.

“This government has not added a single megawatt of power to what it inherited; however, it has mismanaged the energy it inherited and plunged the country into another energy crisis.

“Former President John Dramani Mahama resolved the energy crisis before leaving office through the number of investments and infrastructure projects he embarked on.

“But this government has destroyed all these gains made in the energy sector. It was not easy to resolve the crisis, but the visionary Mills-Mahama government was focused, and through the several investments made, it was resolved.

“The Mahama administration brought in the Ameri Plant, the Karpowership, and others as part of the efforts to resolve the crisis, but today, the current administration has destroyed the gains.

“Aside from these, the Mahama administration, which faced power crisis head-on, introduced the Energy Sector Levy (ESLA) to address the legacy debts, crippling stakeholders in the value chain, and lobbied the US government for Compact II of the Millennium Challenge Account, $500 million to retool the ECG to reduce commercial losses affecting the company’s operations,” he emphasised.
