Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana) has stated that it is completely shocked and scandalized by Electoral Commission’s (EC) admission of capturing wrong registration figures in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise.

This follows the admission of a mistake by the EC.
The EC earlier reported that 143,014 eligible voters had been registered by the end of day four of the exercise.

Less than 24 hours later, the Commission issued a press release indicating that it made an error in the data provided for Day 3, specifically in the Upper East region.

The commission said the figure for day three in the Upper East region had been repeated, leading to inaccuracies in the overall registration statistics.

Community Focus Foundation Ghana in a press release has called on the EC to strictly adhere to set standards to produce a credible voter register widely accepted by all electoral stakeholders ahead of the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In its release, it said the misrepresentation of registration figures is dangerous and cannot be accepted heading into the upcoming general election, warning that it can lead to electoral violence.

“Misrepresentation of registration figures is dangerous and cannot be accepted. Electoral violence comes at a high cost and Ghana is not ready to pay any such price due to the recklessness of any person or institution,” part of the release from CFF-Ghana said.

Below is a copy of the release.

RE: REVISION OF INFOGRAPHS ON DAILY VOTER REGISTRATION FIGURES.

Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana) is completely shocked and scandalized by EC’s admission of capturing wrong registration figures and deleting same from its website at a time several allegations have been levelled against the EC by political stakeholders.

In fact, some actions of the EC is worrisome and continuous to dent its credibility. In 2020 for instance, the Chairperson of EC, Madam Jean Mensa during the general elections announced several different presidential results. This troubled issue nearly tore Ghana apart.

Our press release has been necessitated by the hue and cry of Ghanaians to ensuring that the EC does things right to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic order.

As such, we are by this release calling on the Electoral Commission of Ghana and Jean Mensa in particular to strictly adhere to set standards to produce credible voter register widely accepted by all electoral stakeholders ahead of the upcoming December, 7th general elections.

Misrepresentation of registration figures is dangerous and cannot be accepted. Electoral violence comes at a high cost and Ghana is not ready to pay any such price due to the recklessness of any person or institution.
