The Bono East Communications Bureau of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a scathing critique of Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of making false promises and failing to deliver on developmental projects in the region.

A statement, titled “Moment of Truth: Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia Lies Again,” follows Bawumia’s recent campaign tour in the Bono East Region on May 10, 2024.

According to the NDC, during his tour, Bawumia interacted with various groups, including Chiefs, Clergy, auto mechanics, Zongo Chiefs, traders at the Techiman market, and youth at the Techiman Community Centre.

Speaking at a press conference addressed by Suleman Mohammed-Mustapha, Regional Communications Officer, Bono East Region on Tuesday, May 15, 2024, NDC alleges that Bawumia made several promises that lack credibility, including: Paying allowances to Chiefs and Queen Mothers, opposing LGBTQ+ among others

The NDC’s statement argues that the Bono East Region has been neglected under the current administration, with numerous projects initiated by the previous NDC government left unfinished.

The party highlighted specific abandoned road projects such as the Atebubu-Kwame Danso Road and the Kintampo town roads, among others.

In the education sector, the NDC points to uncompleted E-block schools in Anyima and Donkronkwanta, which were significantly advanced before being abandoned.

They also mention halted projects at St. Francis Seminary and Senior High School and Guakro Effah SHS.

The party further raised security concerns regarding the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the region, which the NDC claims have worsened under the current administration due to alleged leniency towards these groups.

The NDC questions Bawumia’s credibility and leadership, citing his inability to deliver on past promises and his alleged misleading statements.

They specifically commend Miss Abdul Aliu Jariya from Krobo Nursing Training College for exposing what they call Bawumia’s “unrepentant and pathological lies” about the restoration and payment of nursing training allowances.

Additionally, the NDC criticizes the Vice President for dismissing his promise of incentives to churches as a joke during a subsequent visit to his home region.

They argue that such behaviour is unbecoming of a serious political leader and reflect poorly on his credibility.

The statement concludes with a warning against the alleged transportation of foreigners for voter registration in the Nkoranza North and South Constituencies, vowing to resist such actions to maintain the credibility of the electoral process.
