Alhaji Baba Lamin Abu Sadat, a former Presidential Staffer and a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to present the achievements of their eight years in government instead of spreading falsehoods about former President John Mahama.
According to Alhaji Baba Lamin, the Vice President and his team are misleading Ghanaians by claiming that Mahama has only four years to govern, while Dr. Bawumia would have eight years. They are urging Ghanaians, particularly in the Zongo communities, to vote against Mahama on the grounds that he cannot develop the country in just four years.
Alhaji Baba Lamin described this assertion as unfortunate, emphasizing that every President has a four-year term, and if re-elected, they serve another four years. He urged Ghanaians, especially those in the Zongos, to disregard Bawumia’s message and vote for Mahama based on his achievements during his term.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Alfa Radio, Alhaji Baba Lamin noted that former President Mahama served effectively for only three years due to a Supreme Court case filed by Nana Akufo Addo and Bawumia, which took about nine months to resolve. This delay affected Mahama’s ability to appoint his Ministers and other key officials early on.
Despite this, Alhaji Baba Lamin argued that Mahama’s three-year tenure brought significant development to Ghanaians, far surpassing the eight years of Akufo Addo and Bawumia. He challenged Dr. Bawumia and the NPP to highlight any significant development projects they have accomplished in the Ashanti Region, asserting that their performance over the past seven years has been lackluster.
Alhaji Baba Lamin went on to outline Mahama’s achievements in the Ashanti Region, including the construction of the ultra-modern Kejetia Market, considered the largest market in Africa, which includes a hospital, school, fire station, police station, and bank. Other projects include the Tafo, Asawase, and Atonso markets.
In the health sector, he highlighted the construction of hospitals in Kumawu, Fomena, Tepa, Bekwai, and the Afari Military Hospital, as well as an eye care center at the Komfo Anokye Hospital. Additionally, Mahama built 13 E-blocks and numerous road projects in the Ashanti Region.
Alhaji Baba Lamin also refuted the NPP’s claims of transforming the Kumasi Airport into an international airport, clarifying that the redevelopment project, including its three phases, was initiated under Mahama in 2014, with phase one completed during his tenure, enabling night flights and international operations.
He called on the NPP and Dr. Bawumia to present their eight-year achievements for comparison with Mahama’s three-year record, allowing Ghanaians to judge for themselves.
Finally, he urged all Ghanaians to rally behind former President Mahama and vote massively for him and the NDC’s Parliamentary candidates in the upcoming general elections.
