With the 2024 elections looming over Ghana, former President John Dramani Mahama has sounded a cautionary note, describing the nation’s current prognosis as critical and troubling.
In a poignant address at the 8th Ghana CEO Summit organised in Accra on Monday, May 27, Mr Mahama underscored the gravity of the challenges facing the country, emphasising the need for a thoughtful reflection and decisive action.
With the upcoming elections representing a pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, Mr Mahama urged citizens to recognise the significance of their choices.
He highlighted the importance of selecting leaders who possess the vision, integrity, and commitment needed to steer the nation towards prosperity and progress.
2024 CEO Summit-According to him, Ghana’s economy has crumbled into bankruptcy after almost eight years of President Akufo-Addo’s poor leadership.
Consequently, he criticised the government for shirking responsibility for the dire situation and failing to take action to alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians.
“Today, we stand at a critical and troubling crossroads. Our beloved country has become a bankrupt and collapsed economy due to the poor leadership of almost eight years.”
“This leadership has failed Ghanaians and yet refuses to accept or even take responsibility for the most reckless management of our economy in known history. This has plunged our nation into an unprecedented economic crisis and pushed more than eight hundred thousand (800,000) Ghanaians below the poverty line,” he said.
