Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticised NPP flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as unfit for the presidency.
In a public lecture in Kumasi, Mr Mahama said “The Presidency cannot be handed to those who present themselves as the future when they have been the epicentre of our disastrous present.”
Mr Mahama, who is seeking to regain the presidency for the NDC in the upcoming elections, questioned Dr Bawumia’s claims that he holds the key to Ghana’s economic recovery.
“Those whose glaring failures at economic management have sucked us into this vortex of despair… now seek to flee from responsibility should not be rewarded with the Presidency of a nation in such deep crisis,” the former president stated.
He posited that Ghana is in dire economic straits under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Bawumia, who hitherto presented themselves as saviours of the economy in opposition.
But in government, Mr Mahama said their policies have worsened the plight of Ghanaians, with high inflation, debt defaults and economic hardship.
