Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, a Political Analyst and Lecturer at Cape Coast University, has expressed his profound shock at the continued tenure of Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

This follows the release of a leaked tape revealing a conversation between Dame and an accused individual involved in the ongoing ambulance trial.

Dr. Asante Otchere believes the situation with the Attorney-General represents a serious legal misstep. He argued that Mr. Dame should have resigned to protect the image of the ruling party. Dr. Otchere suggested that by stepping down, Mr. Dame would take responsibility for both the party and President Akufo-Addo.

In his opinion, dismissing Mr. Dame would help preserve the integrity of Ghana’s democracy and legal system.

However, Dr. Otchere doubted this would happen, suggesting that the President fears that removing Dame might benefit Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader currently on trial.

During an interview with Ahotor FM on Tuesday, June 25, Dr. Asante Otchere criticized those defending the Attorney-General’s actions, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.

He emphasized that this matter goes beyond politics and touches on the core of the nation’s legal integrity.

Richard Jakpa, under cross-examination, revealed that the Attorney-General had contacted him at odd hours to solicit testimony against the Minority Leader.

This revelation has ignited a public outcry, with many Ghanaians calling for Godfred Dame’s resignation.

Dr. Ato Forson, the former Deputy Finance Minister and current Minority Leader, is on trial for his alleged involvement in the procurement of defective ambulances for Ghana.

In a press conference, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) played a 16-minute tape purportedly capturing a conversation between the Attorney-General and Jakpa.

However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied the authenticity of the tape, claiming it was doctored and manipulated with malicious intent.
