The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr. John Kwakye has shared his view on who has been Ghana’s best leader in the history of the country.
Reacting to the conversation on social media, Dr. John Kwakye said no Ghanaian leader comes close to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
In his view, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was one in a generation and his duplicate is yet to be born.
“Kwame Nkrumah’s political faults aside, no Ghanian leader comes close to him. He was one in a generation and his duplicate is yet to be born! If Nkrumah had continued in power, Ghana would now be at par with Malaysia,” Dr. John Kwakye said.
The conversation on who has been Ghana’s best leader has come up after Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said no other leader comes close to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking at his official unveiling in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said, “Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 to now if you take your Kwame Nkrumah, no one has become president who has protected Ghana and moved it forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
The comments have been described as disrespectful by political analysts with many Ghanaians and politicians demanding a retraction and an apology from Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
