Former Member of Parliament for Buem constituency, Dr. Kwasi Ashaimah, has stated without mincing words that nobody can defend the arrogance of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The former legislator posited that no matter what his defenders will do, the man himself has demonstrated that he is arrogant, disrespectful, and lacks basic skills in interacting with others.
Mr. Ashaimah referenced the refusal of the government to print textbooks for our basic schools and blamed it on NAPO, claiming that Ghanaians refused to allow the government to introduce the comprehensive sexuality education curriculum.
“You’ve asked me why I say NAPO is organised and disrespectful, and this is my evidence: they accepted ‘trumu trumu’ and wanted to introduce the Comprehensive Sexuality Education curriculum, and because we refused, they refused to print textbooks for our schools.
These are the people we are dealing with. NAPO is disrespectful and arrogant. Whoever wants to deny this fact and clear him of that tag will be unsuccessful. I say it a million times: NAPO is disrespectful, and any attempt to clear his name will not succeed. He has shown his colours,” he noted.
He added, “When you are choosing a leader, it doesn’t matter about the political party; the character of the person you have selected is also important. It is not just about the contest. It is also about the disrespect you have exhibited against somebody who has been a leader and has been selected as the millennium man.”
He stated that “NAPO lacks respect.” I’d worked with him in Parliament for numerous years. I say this because the late Sherry Ayittey was in parliament to answer questions, and while there, NAPO raised a point of order, and the Speaker at the time was Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho. His point of order was that the late minister had dressed improperly. He stated the late minister was wearing an ankle bracelet. He shocked everyone because the entire world was watching. We let this embarrassing show to end.
In the seventh parliament, Attorney-General Gloria Akuffo appeared in parliament wearing an anklet and the same clothing as Sherry Ayittey, but NAPO remained silent and so we asked him about why he did not raise the same point of order as he did against Sherry Ayittey.”
