North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on President Akufo-Addo to fire his Employment Minister and Agric Minister.
His call comes on the back of a historic nationwide strike by all labour unions in the country beginning today, Monday, 15 July 2024.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the strike by organised labour would have been avoided but for “intransigence, belligerence, lawlessness, utter disrespect for citizens and unbridled taste for state capture.”
The North Tongu MP in a Facebook post, also wants the board and management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) immediately dissolved.
Mr Ablakwa reminded politicians that the industrial action should serve as an eloquent reminder to them that real power belongs to the people and “you mess with the people at your own peril.”
The leadership of Organised Labour, including the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and various other unions, announced a nationwide strike starting Monday, July 15.
The strike is in response to the sale a 60% stake in hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The hotels in question are set to be sold to Rock City Hotel Limited, a company owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture.
The Employment Minister and the NPRA had agreed to the sale, hence the call for all involved to resign or to be fired.
