A future NDC government is promising the introduction of a cooperative mining scheme, which, according to flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, will help address illegal mining and sustain small-scale mining.
Speaking to miners at Talensi in the Upper East Region, John Mahama argued that, the scheme will help train the youth in mining and curb the destruction caused by galamsey.
On day three of John Mahama’s tour of the Upper East Region, he visited mining towns and villages to address concerns about job losses and discuss the NDC’s proposals to sustain small-scale mining.
He told the gathering that a future NDC government will create a cooperative to increase jobs and sanitize the industry.
He added that, mining companies will also be tasked with giving priority to indigenous people when employing workers.
