The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has charged members of the party to work effectively and efficiently to ensure the party secures more votes in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in the Ashanti region.

The former Minority Leader says the party would need a little over 35% to secure victory for former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at a campaign launch organised by Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak, the lawyer stated that the plan by the NPP to secure 85% of the votes in the Ashanti Region will not work.

He has, therefore, encouraged party members to sacrifice by working hard to secure victory for the party.

He averred that the NPP always refers to the Ashanti Region as their world bank and hence will always win more votes there, but that claim only materialises when the party has embarked on massive projects in the area or businesses thrive there.

He opined that the residents in the region are dissatisfied with the performance of the NPP, and if the NDC puts in the work, these individuals, including business owners, will vote massively for the NDC.

He stated that if the party can obtain 35% of the vote, Mr. Mahama will be declared President of the Republic.

He said the NPP keeps claiming that the Ashanti region is their World Bank and will always get the votes of the people, but “the Ashanti region is only for the NPP if they are performing, Ashanti is only for the NPP when businesses are good, Ashanti is only for the NPP is low, and therefore we are optimistic that Asanteman will support John Dramani Mahama and support the NDC to win. We need just a little above 35% in the Ashanti region to declare John Dramani Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. This is our aspiration, and we must work towards that.”
