The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to release the provisional voter register for the upcoming December 7 general elections to all political parties before the exhibition exercise begins.

The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr Omane Boamah, expressed concerns about the EC’s handling of the process, accusing the Commission of delaying the release of the register.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 14, Dr Boamah criticized the EC for what he described as incompetence and alleged that the delay was a deliberate effort to provide political parties with a substandard register.

The former Communications Minister stressed that political parties need adequate time to scrutinise the register before the exhibition.

According to Dr Boamah, the delay has caused significant concern within the NDC and other key stakeholders.

He emphasised that the EC’s actions, particularly those of its IT Department, could lead to dire consequences if not addressed promptly.

He warned that the EC’s approach, if left unchecked, could threaten the stability of the upcoming elections, calling for immediate action to avoid any potential chaos.

“The EC must release the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) now! With just six (6) days to the 2024 EXHIBITION of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR), political parties are yet to receive the register.”

“We strongly believe this lack of promptness exhibited by the EC is due to both incompetence and a deliberate attempt to dump a sub-standard Provisional Voter Register on political parties in a short period, to make it difficult for interested parties to critically peruse the register before the Exhibition starts, next week,” he posted.
