A security expert, Mr. Anthony Acquaye, has endorsed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) decision to set conditions before signing the 2024 peace declaration accord.
He emphasized that the NDC’s demands are legitimate, feasible, and necessary for ensuring peace and security.
Mr. Acquaye, who also serves as the Executive Director of the Centre for Security Dialogue and Peace Advocacy, explained that true peace and security can only flourish when justice is upheld.
He noted that peace cannot exist in the absence of justice and that it is crucial for the government to address these concerns.
He questioned why the government has not yet implemented the recommendations of the Emile Short Committee, which was established to investigate the violence during the Ayawaso-West Wuogon by-election.
In his view, the government’s inaction on this matter undermines efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Speaking during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Mr. Acquaye expressed his full support for the conditions set by the NDC for signing the peace pact.
He reiterated that the conditions outlined by the NDC are not unreasonable or unattainable and that they should be met to ensure a fair and peaceful election process.
