The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has accused appointees of the ruling government of stockpiling money to influence voters on December 7 this year.

He has therefore urged voters to accept the money, which he claims has been hidden in their homes, but prioritize long-term development over immediate monetary gains by voting against these officials.

Speaking at Adambrombe in the Akuapem South constituency of the Eastern Region during the launch of a nationwide campaign for the NDC and its flagbearer, John Mahama, Mr Asiedu Nketia urged voters to accept money from political parties when offered.

However, he stressed that voters should ultimately make their decisions based on what is best for the country’s development.

“If they give you 5 cedis, 10 cedis, to vote for them, take the money because it is stolen money they’ve kept in their rooms. If they deposit it in the bank or send it abroad, they would be exposed, so they keep it at home to influence voters. Spend the money because it’s rightfully yours. If they use the money to buy things for you, accept the gifts.”

Mr Nketia compared it to a thief stealing your money, and then giving you back a portion and asking you to do his bidding, threatening that if you do not comply, the gods will punish you.

He encouraged the people that taking the money and not voting for them would not harm them in any way.
