The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party, for the successful launch of its 2024 election manifesto.
The manifesto, which hinges on the “Resetting Ghana” agenda, has been hailed as a comprehensive roadmap for the country’s development.
The launch, which took place at Winneba in the Central Region on Saturday, was attended by thousands of party supporters, dignitaries, and members of the press.
The manifesto outlines the NDC’s vision for Ghana’s future, focussing on key areas such as economic growth, education, healthcare, sports, agriculture, security, media, international relations, the 24-hour economy, and infrastructure development, among many other critical areas.
According to the GFL Secretary General, Mr. Abraham Koomson, in an interview with a section of the media in Tema on Monday, the NDC’s manifesto demonstrates a clear understanding of the challenges facing Ghanaian workers and the nation at large.
“The ‘Resetting Ghana’ agenda offers a refreshing perspective on how to address the pressing issues of our time,” said Mr. Koomson.
“We commend the NDC for its commitment to creating a better future for all Ghanaians,” said Mr. Koomson.
Mr. Koomson, a seasoned unionist, emphasized the urgent need to reset Ghana’s trajectory, citing the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s economic mismanagement over the past seven and a half years.
The GFL Secretary General recounted that the NPP’s tenure has been marked by economic woes, including widespread job losses, rampant unemployment, crippling taxes, and a precipitous decline in the value of the cedi against other currencies.
“The current state of our economy is a stark testament to the NPP’s incompetence,” he declared. “It’s time to reset Ghana’s course and steer our nation towards prosperity and progress.”
Mr. Koomson highlighted the devastating impact of the NPP’s economic policies on ordinary Ghanaians, citing the rising cost of living, reduced purchasing power, and diminished economic opportunities.
“The NPP’s economic mess has pushed millions of Ghanaians into hardship, and it’s our duty to offer a better alternative,” he stressed.
