Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the current voters’ register is “incurably defective” without a forensic audit or parliamentary investigation as the nation approaches a crucial election in December.

Dr. Omane Boamah criticiSed the Electoral Commission (EC) for delaying the release of the voters’ register to the NDC ahead of the exhibition exercise. Despite these challenges, he praised the NDC’s efforts to scrutiniSe the register, which he claims is unfit for purpose.

In his statement, Dr. Omane Boamah alleged that the voters’ register had been tampered with, leading to significant anomalies.

He highlighted several issues uncovered during the exhibition exercise, including missing names of registered voters, qualified voters being incorrectly placed on the Exception or Multiple List, disqualified individuals still appearing on the Main Provisional Voters Register, and unauthoriSed transfers of voters.

Additionally, he pointed out flaws in the proxy voting application process, which lacked proper biometric checks.

Dr. Omane Boamah urged Parliament to investigate the EC, warning that failure to do so should prompt both Ghanaians and the international community to demand a forensic audit of the register.

He also reminded the public of the unresolved theft of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) laptops and Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) from the EC’s headquarters.

He announced that the NDC would begin a series of public fora and demonstrations to raise awareness and address these concerns.
