The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intention to establish a Gold Board to regulate small-scale mining and the sale of gold if voted into power in the upcoming December 7 elections.
In an interview with Joy News, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, explained that individuals wishing to engage in legal mining would be required to obtain a legitimate license and complete the necessary training provided by the Gold Board.
He stated that miners would be trained on responsible mining practices and land reclamation.
“We are going to insist that you do not mine in water bodies. If you do that, your license will be revoked, whether or not you are John Mahama’s brother,” he emphasized.
Mr. Gyamfi also stressed that the NDC would ensure all NPP government officials who engaged in illegal mining would be held accountable.
“All the NPP government officials and apparatchiks who have been at the forefront of this shameless, evil, criminal, illegal galamsey menace will pay for their crimes. None of them will go scot-free. Mark my words,” he added.
