The Minority in Parliament has walked the talk by blocking tax waivers in excess of $350 million for five companies under the One District One Factory (1D1F) policy.

The tax waiver was part of the agenda for the recall on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, but the Minority considers the move as a ploy to award cronies of the government.

The side had earlier announced plans to kick against the waiver policy.

The NDC MPs argue the development will only favour some select few to the detriment of the poor.

The Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee, Yussif Sulemana speaking to journalists on Wednesday said, “the kind of taxes that this government has imposed on us, starting from 2017 to date, about 50 taxes that have been imposed after they had come to say that taxes that were imposed by the NDC government were nuisance.”

Mr Sulemana stressed that, the Minority would oppose any of such taxes because the citizenry has long been afflicted, adding that such tax exemption solely enriches the elite whilst the average Ghanaian suffers.
