The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a firm statement ahead of the upcoming elections, declaring their intention to remain vigilant and actively defend their rights throughout the electoral process.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia stressed the NDC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the Electoral Commission (EC) adheres to its mandate fairly and transparently.
“We are not going to sleep on our rights at all getting into these elections,” Asiedu Nketia emphasized, signaling the party’s preparedness to challenge any actions that might jeopardize the integrity of the election.
He reiterated the need for the EC to act impartially, ensuring that all political parties involved in the elections can have full confidence in the process.
The NDC has consistently voiced concerns over the need for transparency and fairness, particularly as the nation braces for what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
Asiedu Nketia expressed optimism that the EC would take the party’s concerns seriously and uphold its responsibilities. “We are hopeful the Commission will listen to us and listen to us very well and discharge their responsibilities in a manner that will be satisfactory to all the participating parties,” he stated.
The NDC’s apprehensions stem from what they call discrepancies they discovered in the voter register during a recent voter exhibition exercise. According to the party, the irregularities—including missing names and inaccuracies in voter details—pose a serious threat to the credibility of the upcoming election. The party has called for a forensic audit of the voter register to address these issues. However, the EC rejected the request, leading to increased vigilance from the NDC as the election nears.
