The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern region has justified the party’s resolve to hit the streets on Tuesday, demanding a forensic audit of the voter register.
According to the regional party branch, their demand stems from what it says it’s widespread voter register manipulation in the region of illegal transfer of dozens of voters in and out of constituencies in the Eastern Region.
Addressing the media ahead of the nationwide demonstration, the Regional Secretary, Baba Jamal Korneh elaborated concerns over illegal voter transfers, discrepancies in proxy voting, and irregularities in the absentee voter list.
Mr Korneh said after analyzing the provisional register for the just ended voter exhibition, the total number of transfers exceeded the number recorded by all the parties and the Electoral Commission(EC).
Detailing specific constituencies where there’s widespread of these anomalies, he revealed that in Lower Manya Krobo, 642 voters were on the special voter list, but the absentee list shows 3,860 names—an illegal transfer of 3,218 voters.
He stated that, Nkawkaw and Nsawam-Adoagyiri also showed similar discrepancies, with 2,240 and 2,826 illegal absentee transfers, respectively.
The party has said these discrepancies can be resolved if the EC heeds to the call for a roadmap to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register.
