Yapei-Kusawgu Member of Parliament(MP) John Jinapor has cast doubts on the accountability of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia if elected president on December 7.
He asserted that, if there is nothing for Bawumia to do, now is the time for him to show his leadership qualities and not wait to be President.
According to him, Dr Bawumia as Vice President has contributed to the current economic mess Ghanaians find themselves in.
Dr Bawumia, during a media encounter in August 2024 explained that his role as Vice President comes with certain limitations, stating that he is not in total control of governance.
He emphasised that his current position as Vice President does not grant him the requisite executive authority to implement all his ideas, reserving these plans for his future presidency.
But in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, programme Thursday, Mr Jinapor stated there is absolutely nothing Dr Bawumia will do differently from the Akufo-Addo-led government.
“We need this change; it is a necessity. When Bawumia is elected, all the wrongs that has gone on, he can’t do anything about it because he is part of it. Talking about betting tax, e-levy but election is due, he is promising to scrap them he should show his leadership qualities now.
“He is the head of the economic management team and the President told us that he defers to Bawumia when it comes to economic issues unless the President was lying. So if he [Bawumia] can’t tell Akufo-Addo that e-levy is not good, how can he tell IMF?” he said.
