The Mankrado of Battor traditional area in the North Tongu district of the Volta region, Togbe Borbordzi VII, has declared his support for the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Battor during a press engagement to discuss the Akosombo and Kpong dams spillage disaster, a year on, the Mankrado said Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa deserves another term due to his generosity.
“The whole world has seen what he (Ablakwa) has done for North Tongu. His efforts have changed things in the constituency, so I want people to recognize his work and give him another term.”
He added that Ablakwa has “paid for schools for our children, brought job opportunities, and gave us joy when the floods came in. So I want North Tongu to show love to this man and let him know that he deserves an award, and that award is to elect him again. Through him, we’ve got a hospital in Mepe, and he projected North Tongu to the world; great people sympathized with us in this constituency, and we, as Tongu people, must take this keenly. That’s why we call him Togbe Worgbedzi because whatever we give him, he delivers.”
The Chief claimed that he is not engaging in partisan politics but “because of the quality of leadership that we’ve seen in Ablakwa, I need to show my support to him.” The Mankrado, however, emphasized that the people of North Tongu should show their appreciation by voting for him massively in the coming December election due to his support during the disaster.
“Many prominent people visit Battor because of his charisma. I personally believe that when we are talking about good leadership and consciousness for people, then Ablakwa is number one. Our constituency owes him a lot. Even though his party is not in power, he works beyond imagination, and he will continue to be a king when it comes to politics. I also think that we must show the highest appreciation to our MP to prove that we love him and recognize his role as our MP.”
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been the MP for North Tongu since 2012. This year, he is contesting the seat with Dr. John Savior Eleblu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
