Mr  Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Pru East, has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of inmates by donating essential items to the Yeji Prison Camp and spending time with the inmates.

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Mr Boam visited the prison facility, presenting ten fully furnished benches, along with food, assorted drinks, and bottled water to the inmates.

The donation was aimed at addressing some of the challenges faced by the prisoners, particularly the need for proper seating, and to show solidarity with them.

Accompanied by party executives, members, and local pastors, Mr Boam made the donation as part of his birthday celebration, which he chose to mark with the inmates.

During the ceremony, he expressed his belief in having a second chance, saying, “I believe that everyone deserves a second chance, and it’s our responsibility to support those in need.

I am here to provide these benches for your comfort, as it was brought to my attention that you are in urgent need of them.”

Following the donation, Mr. Boam joined the inmates for lunch, sharing stories and offering words of encouragement.

He highlighted the importance of rehabilitation and reintegration into society, urging the prisoners to remain hopeful for a better future.

The inmates, visibly touched by the gesture, thanked Mr. Boam for his compassion and support.

They also expressed disappointment with the government’s denial of amnesty for the past eight years and the refusal to increase their feeding allowance, which has remained at ₵1.80 per day.

In a show of gratitude, the inmates declared their support for the NDC and Mr Boam in the upcoming elections, appealing to former President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize prisoners’ welfare, including their health, living conditions, and basic needs within the prison system.

This humanitarian act has earned Mr Boam praise from the local community, with many commending him as a leader who truly cares about the welfare of all citizens, regardless of their circumstances.
