The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, has pledged to establish an agriculture-focused university in the Afram Plains area if elected on December 7.
The former President has stated that the university will promote agricultural development and empower the youth.
Mr. Mahama was speaking during a campaign rally in Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South Constituency.
He emphasised that the university would serve as a centre of excellence for agricultural studies and skills training to boost farming practices.
Mahama noted that he secured funding for the project before leaving office, but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could not build the university.
“When we were in government, we obtained a loan facility from Korea to establish a university here in Afram Plains. Unfortunately, we left office, and when our brothers came in, they appropriated the funds elsewhere, depriving this place of a university.
“So don’t be wary, when we come into government, we will find money to establish this agricultural university. The university will be headquartered in Somanya, Eastern Region, and will have a campus in both Afram Plains North and South,” he stated.
