The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded the immediate firing, prosecution, and disbarment of Attorney General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame.
The party has accused him of fabricating evidence in the ongoing ambulance trial of former deputy finance minister and Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said they are making these demands considering the “scandalous” recording and other forms of evidence that, in their view, expose the alleged manipulation of evidence by the minister.
He claimed that when these things are done, it will restore credibility to the Attorney General’s Office and Ghana’s judicial system.
Richard Jakpa, the third accused in court on Thursday, May 23, alleged that the Attorney-General approached him at odd hours to implicate the Minority Leader.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, vehemently denied the allegations.
He stated that allegations of him attempting to force the accused to implicate Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial were false.
But in his address to the media on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the Chairman of the umbrella family said the party is demanding the immediate and unconditional resignation or dismissal of Godfred Yeboah Dame for bringing the high office of Attorney General and Ministry of Justice into disrepute.
Clearly, Godfred Dame is unfit to hold himself as the Attorney General, Minister of Justice, and elder of the Ghana Bar, he declared.
He also called for the immediate prosecution of Godfred Dame over what he described as multiple violations of the laws of Ghana, warning that a new NDC government will prosecute him should President Akufo-Addo fail to do so.
“We wish to make it clear that should President Akufo-Addo refuse or fail to prosecute him, a future NDC government will prosecute Dame for this heinous crime of fabrication of evidence.”
He also called for the commencement of disciplinary proceedings by the General Legal Council against Godfred Dame and his disbarment as a lawyer for conduct unbecoming of a lawyer.
The party further demanded a televised parliamenatry inquiry into all-aged judicial manipulation.
