The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to deploy more than 600 lawyers and accountants to monitor the upcoming December general elections in the Ashanti region.

The professionals, who will serve as agents and monitors, are tasked with safeguarding NDC votes and ensuring transparency throughout the electoral process.

George Loh, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, revealed the party’s strategy during the Oforikrom Constituency campaign launch.

He emphasised the NDC’s commitment to preventing any attempts at vote manipulation by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in what he described as a highly contested election.

According to Mr. Loh the NDC will not allow the NPP to manipulate the upcoming election. It will be ‘boot for boot and bullet for bullet.”

On his part, Ashanti Regional Secretary for the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, echoed the party’s confidence, setting an ambitious goal of winning every parliamentary seat in the region, including the Oforikrom seat, which has long been dominated by the NPP.

NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Oforikrom, Ahmed Anwel Sadat, also expressed optimism about his chances, citing widespread dissatisfaction with the performance of incumbent NPP MPs.

Mr. Sadat believes the mood in Oforikrom signals a potential shift in voter sentiment towards the NDC.
