The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has outlined how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government plans to promote good governance and intensify efforts to combat corruption in Ghana if elected.
The legislator highlighted the party’s dedication to enforcing strong measures aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and integrity in government institutions as part of their 2024 manifesto.
He made this known dDuring the NDC’s Sectoral Press Briefing on Tuesday, September 3,
Mr Ablakwa explained that the NDC’s approach to good governance will include strengthening the independence of key institutions such as the Auditor-General’s Office, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and the judiciary.
He stressed that these institutions must be empowered to operate without political interference, ensuring that they can effectively check and balance the powers of the executive and other branches of government.
He noted that the party would focus on increasing transparency in public procurement processes, tightening controls over public spending, and ensuring that corruption cases are swiftly and thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
These measures, he argued, are crucial for restoring public trust in the government.
Mr Ablakwa also emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of accountability among public officials. He stated that the NDC government would set high ethical standards for all government appointees and public servants, with a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
“The next NDC government will undertake constitutional reforms to reduce the overbearing powers of the President and deepen checks and balances. We will also usher in a new paradigm of ethical and incorruptible leadership — leading by example and abolish ex-gratia.”
“Our next government will drastically reduce the size of government by appointing not more than 60 Ministers, streamlining government and abolishing numerous presidential staffers and the flagbearer said, Operation-Recover-All-Loot — ruthlessly pursuing uncompromising accountability by launching inquiries and forensic audits into all scandals,” he stated.
