Lawyer for the 6 victims of Techiman South electoral violence, Abraham Amaliba, has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling of the case, adding that they will appeal the ruling.
The Wenchi High Court ordered government to pay 6 out of the victims of Techiman South electoral violence a total of GHC270,000 as compensation for violation of their rights and legal fees incurred during trial.
This was after the court presided over by Justice Fredrick Nawurah found that their right to life and dignity had been breached.
But speaking on HOT EDITION on 3FM, lawyer Amaliba said looking at the cost incurred in the process, the compensation is woefully inadequate.
“We can’t say we are satisfied, considering the compensation givien to the victims. Even though we welcome the judgment, we think that the compensation is woeful. To give each of the victims 25,000 and 20,000 for legal cost. If you ask any lawyer who is travelling from Wenchi, and for the duration of the case, I think is woefully inadequate”, he stated.
“We are meeting to take a decision on that, but we’re inclined to appeal against the compensation. State agents have no business to shoot at unarmed civilians. The rights of my clients were violated, we are satisfied with it, but we want the compensation appealed,” he revealed.
