Kwaku Ansa-Asare, the former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Attorney General Godfred Dame from his position in the aftermath of a leaked tape involving him and Richard Jakpa.
Dr. Forson, who previously served as Deputy Finance Minister and is now the Minority Leader, is being prosecuted by the state for his alleged involvement in the procurement of defective ambulances for Ghana.
Despite the accusations made by the third accused, the Attorney-General maintained that Richard Jakpa had instead sent multiple letters requesting a plea bargain in an attempt to have all charges against the accused persons dropped. He added that the proposal has not been accepted yet.
Nonetheless, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) played the recording during a press conference on Tuesday, May 28.
In an interview with Citi TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Mr Ansa-Asare advised Ghanaians to initiate an impeachment process against the President if he fails to sack the Attorney General.
“I said the President doesn’t have the moral right nor the political courage to do that. So, Ghanaians must remove him. We’re the people, if we say the President should remove him and he doesn’t, we will impeach the President, for not upholding the tenets of the Constitution.”
He emphasised that the allegations should not be ignored and urged Ghanaians to uphold the constitution.
“This is not a mere allegation, for once let us stand up and defend the Constitution. He’s my son, I call him my son, I respect him, but that does not mean that if he finds himself in an infraction of the law, then we leave it at that, no.”
