On Thursday, June 27, there was a protest at the High Court in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial involving the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and the third accused, Richard Jakpa.

Protesters gathered at the forecourt of the Law Court Complex after the fourth proceeding of the trial, showing their support for Dr Ato Forson.

The protesters chanted local Ghanaian songs with strips of red cloth tied around their necks.

For the first time, some traditional rulers from the Central Region were also at the court to show their support and solidarity for Dr Forson.

Members of Parliament from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), along with the Central Regional Chairman of the party, were also at the Law Complex to support the Minority Leader.

Briefing the media after the proceeding, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, accused the Attorney General of displaying ignorance.

He argued that the only person whose case has crumbled and whose character has been exposed as dishonourable throughout the proceedings is not Richard Jakpa or Dr Ato Forson, but rather the Attorney General, Godfred Dame.

Mr Gyamfi asserted that the evidence produced by the third accused, Mr Jakpa, during cross-examination shows that it was indeed the Attorney General who first suggested a meeting with Mr Jakpa.

“He’s the only one who has proven to be a liar, to be a dishonourable character as far as these proceedings are concerned,” Mr Gyamfi said.
