National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, has stated that the New Patriotic Party’s ticket of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh will not serve the best interest of the country.

According to him, what the two men represent, “arrogance and lies” are not what the country needs to propel.

Speaking on Joy FM’s News, Mr Ricketts-Hagan emphasised the need for Ghana to be led by individuals who demonstrate neither arrogance nor dishonesty.

Since the NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia selected Dr Opoku Prempeh as his running mate, a section of Ghanaians has raised concerns about his attitude, with many accusing him of being arrogant.

The popular remark is when he challenged individuals advocating for the issuance of a load-shedding timetable by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to publish their own proposed schedules amid the power crisis earlier this year.

Another was his statement in 2021, in which he threatened to lead a demo in the Ashanti Region should the Keta Sea Defence Project be captured in the 2022 Budget.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile, Mr Ricketts-Hagan said: “When you look at Napo and his Excellency Bawumia, you get that one seems to be a liar and you get the other seems to be arrogant and arrogance and lies are not the kind of leadership that we are looking for going forward.”

Mr Ricketts-Hagan emphasised that Ghana seeks leaders who can speak truthfully with humility.

“…And that is not going to come from the ticket that we are looking at, at the moment,” he noted.

The former Deputy Minister for Finance also suggested that the decision by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to settle on Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, as his running mate, must have been very challenging.
