The Minority in Parliament has fumed over the audacity of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to challenge the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama to a debate.
In a press release signed by Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim, it questioned the call for a debate, insisting that the Vice President has no locus when his government has made 33.3% of Ghana’s population extremely poor.
The Minority said it finds it bewildering that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will have the effrontery to call for a debate when about two million Ghanaians are facing acute food and nutrition insecurity.
“For a government that has completely destroyed Ghana’s economy, rendered 33.3% of Ghana’s population extremely poor, and about two million Ghanaians facing acute food and nutrition insecurity, according to the World Bank, and about 35% of Ghana’s youth unemployed (the highest in the Fourth Republic), the Minority finds it bewildering that Alhaji Bawumia still has the audacity to call for a debate on the economy,” the Minority fumed in its release.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has called on the NPP flagbearer to participate in the debate of the 2024 Mid-Year Budget review presented by Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam on Tuesday.
According to the Minority, it has lined up a team of competent members to debate the Vice President.
“Pursuant to the Vice President’s recent call for a debate on the economy, this invitation presents Alhaji Bawumia an excellent opportunity and forum to debate and account for his stewardship over the last seven and a half years (7.5 years) as Chairman of the Economic Management Team.
“The NDC Minority has lined up a crack team of highly knowledgeable and competent members on its side to debate Vice President Bawumia and further expose the abysmal economic performance of his government,” the Minority press release said.
