A former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has criticized Vice President Dr Mahamud Bawumia for the woes of the Cedi against the dollar.

As head of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Mr Ofosu Kwakye said, Dr Bawumia has as failed to manage the entire economy well, leading the struggles of the Cedi.

In a post on his X platform on Monday, March 24, he said “The Ghana cedi now exchanges at GHS 13.75 to a dollar.

“Recall that Bawumia, the flatfooted Head of the Economic Management Team, held lectures in opposition purporting to teach us how to manage the exchange rate. He is the worst to have managed the Ghanaian economy. Throw him out!”

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently said that  said that the EMT does not have decision-making powers.

He said they only advise the cabinet.

Delivering his address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday, February 7, Dr Bawumia said “Thankfully, I was appointed as chair of the EMT, as a sub-committee to Cabinet we do not have decision-making powers but I am very proud of the quality of advice we have been providing over the years to Cabinet.

“As vice president, I was asked by the president to assist in solving the problems that were inhibiting the economy. my approach was to help formalize the economy through digitalization as stated in our 2016 manifesto.”
