The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lacks the credibility necessary to lead Ghana as President.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey argues that Dr Bawumia, being a central figure in the current government, shares responsibility for its failures and cannot dissociate himself from the administration’s shortcomings.

He criticised Dr Bawumia and the NPP government for their refusal to take responsibility for economic mismanagement and for not apologising to Ghanaians for the resulting crisis.

He highlighted the inconsistency in Bawumia’s promises of transformative changes in key sectors while failing to address the current challenges, indicating a lack of political will and competence.

The NDC General Secretary expressed astonishment at Dr Bawumia’s continued promises for future reforms despite his inability to resolve existing issues.

Mr Kwetey sees this as a clear sign of incompetence, questioning Bawumia’s readiness to implement necessary reforms only if elected President.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, June 26, Kwetey underscored the credibility of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

He pointed out Mahama’s proven track record of achievements and his commitment to fulfilling promises, contrasting sharply with Bawumia’s unfulfilled pledges.

Mr Kwetey urged Ghanaians to consider the credibility and accomplishments of the candidates, advocating for Mahama’s leadership over Bawumia’s.

He emphasised that Mahama’s history of delivering on promises makes him a more reliable and capable leader for Ghana’s future.

“So, it that takes courage, it takes principle. We’re talking about the flagbearer of NPP, who actually is the head of the economic management team. Who has been at the heart of governance, who’s still promising what we call heaven, when he’s in power and capable of resolving the problem.

“Who’s promising that when he comes, he will resolve e-levy, you’re in power, resolve the e-levy. No, when I come, I’m going to resolve the e-levy.

“The taxes, when I come, I’m going to bring flat rate, oh really? You’re in power, you can do it now, you’re in power you can do so many things. He’s still promising heaven when he has the capacity to be able to do it now and initiate,” he stated.

“So, it’s not just about having been there on that part of Mahama, but it’s simply, about the difference in character. It’s about nobility, it’s about honour. Mahama has it, whereas the flagbearer of NPP absolutely has none,” he added.
