Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement, has made a passionate appeal to organisations and individuals to extend a helping hand to the Upper East Regional Hospital’s plans to establish a dialysis unit at the facility.

The MP says the donations from organisations and individuals could go a long way in helping the hospital run the unit and provide services for patients affected by kidney-related issues.

He suggested that when the facility is fully functional, it will help those who had to travel from the region and adjoining areas to Accra to seek medical care for their kidney-related issues to depend on the facility.

This was after the MP had donated Ghc5,000 in support of the initiative to establish a dialysis unit.

The MP had the opportunity to interact with the initiator of the project and the administrative team of the hospital.

While there, he was taken on a tour of the facility and used the opportunity to thank the staff and management of the hospital for taking steps towards establishing the unit.

“The team showed me the unit, and I must commend the team for doing so much in such a short time. With additional support, they will do more.”

He disclosed that the facility, through donations, has already procured three dialysis machines, has obtained and renovated a section of the former male ward, and has fitted a water purification system.

He was optimistic that if all goes well, the unit will start operating in a week.

“If all goes well, the unit should be up and running in the next few weeks. This will save those in need of dialysis from having to travel all the way to Tamale, Kumasi, or Accra.”

The facility is expected to require additional donations to ensure its operation and maintenance.

He has pledged to make additional donations beyond the Ghc5,000 he has already donated and emphasized the importance of emulating others.

He asked those who interested in donating to the facility to reach out to him so he would put them through the management of the hospital.

Earlier today, I was at the Upper East Regional Hospital to make a donation of ghc 5,000 in support of the initiative to establish a dialysis unit. I had the opportunity to interact with the initiator of the project and the administrative team of the hospital.

We discussed the possible causes of the increasing numbers of kidney illnesses, the importance of having a functioning dialysis unit in the hospital, and the benefits of the unit to the people of the Upper East Region.

Thankfully, the team, through donations, has already procured three dialysis machines, has obtained and renovated a section of the former male ward, and has fitted a water purification system. If all goes well, the unit should be up and running in the next few weeks. This will save those in need of dialysis from having to travel all the way to Tamale, Kumasi, or Accra.

However, the unit will need more machines given the increasing number of cases according to the team. It will also need regular supplies of consumables for dialysis to keep the cost down.

The team showed me the unit, and I must commend the team for doing so much in such a short time. With additional support, they will do more.

I expect to make additional donations to support the unit. No amount is too small or too big. You and / or your organisation can also support this worthy initiative. If you can help, please let me know so that I can put you in contact with the team in charge.

Dr. Clement Abas Apaak
MP, Builsa South
