A member of the Health Committee of Parliament, Hottordze Alexander Roosevelt has expressed shock over the abandoned state of the Pantang COVID-19 infectious disease treatment and isolation centre.
The facility which was completed by the government in 2020 during the pandemic has since been left unused and has been overrun by weeds and dust.
Speaking to Citi News, the Central MP, Alexander Roosevelt called on the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye to urgently find alternative purposes for the facility to prevent continuous decay.
“That facility is supposed to be the Ghana Health Service headquarters or training centre. Then this government saw the wisdom in putting it in shape. That is commendable.
“Does it mean that after the use of that particular facility as an infectious centre, we should leave it to rot? What about the money that was spent on it? Are they saying that we don’t have any particular use for that facility?
“So, once I have seen it, the Health Committee has seen it. So as a committee, we are appealing to the Minister that the current Minister of Health to find an alternative use for that particular facility immediately.”
He further emphasised the need to expedite the transfer process of the facility to the Ghana Health Service in case the Ministry of Health lacks concrete plans for its use.
