Mahdi Jibril, Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), laughed off the comparison of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

He indicated that the two running mates for the various parties are very far apart.

He opined that while the former Education Minister under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is far more competent, credible, incorruptible, and patriotic, the same cannot be said for the Energy Minister.

He said nobody has been able to point fingers at the running mate of the NDC for engaging in activities of corruption or arrogance, but the majority of responses that have followed the NAPO selection have been negative.

“Comparing NAPO to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is a grave mistake. Anyone who would make such a comparison is not sincere. Nobody has been able to accuse the NDC’s running mate of being corrupt, arrogant, and incompetent. But NAPO has been described as arrogant, incompetent, and corrupt. He is nowhere near the credentials of our running mate.

NAPO lacks credibility; he is not fit to be Vice President because he lacks respect and is arrogant. Professor is someone who has not had people take a negative view of her character. She was the first female vice chancellor of a university. She has served her nation well,” he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.

He also claimed that the selection of NAPO was not surprising but unfortunate, adding that there were more competent people who could have been selected, but the NPP wants somebody who is from the Ashanti region and not someone who is competent.

He compared the selection of NAPO as running to a terrible mate who has employed the services of an incompetent mechanic.

“The selection of NAPO is not news. It was obvious he was the one who would be selected. It is like a terrible mate who has selected or employed an incompetent mechanic to repair a car for him.”
