The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President, John Dramani Mahama has made a strong case for his re-election.

Mr. Mahama who emphasising the need for experienced leadership to address the country’s pressing economic challenges, speaking during a community engagement in Juapong in the Volta Region, highlighted the importance of electing a leader with a proven track record rather than risking the country’s future on an untested candidate.

During his address, Mr. Mahama reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to prioritising youth development, urging young voters to make informed choices in the upcoming December 7 elections.

He advised them to accept any financial incentives that might be offered by politicians but to make a decision at the ballot box that reflects their best interests—voting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of power.

“Before the election, they will come with plenty of money,” Mr. Mahama asserted.

He continued that: “When they come, I beg you, take your thing back. But on the day when you go to the ballot box, remember the eight years of suffering, remember the eight years of hunger, remember the eight years of poverty, and vote for the government and the president that will come and turn this nation around.”

Drawing a sharp contrast between his leadership and the current government, Mr. Mahama pointed to the NPP’s unfulfilled promises from 2016.

“In 2016, they said, ‘Oh, try me, and if in four years I don’t do well, you can vote me out.’ The same thing Jack Toronto’s younger brother is saying. He too says, ‘Try me, and after four years, if I don’t do well, you can vote me out.’ But the youth of this country do not have the time to try anybody again.”

Mr. Mahama also urged voters to choose experience and expertise over experimentation in the upcoming elections.

“What we need is an experienced hand who has handled this country before and whose work we have seen and so we are not going to try anybody.”

He added: “We are going back to experience, we are going back to expertise to turn our country around so that our youth can have a brighter future.”
