The Bono East Regional Communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for its handling of the recently concluded Limited Voter Registration Exercise.
According to Mr. Sulemana Mohammed-Mustapha, the NDC regional communicator, the EC’s actions have disenfranchised many young Ghanaians eager to participate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mr. Mohammed-Mustapha pointed out that when the registration period ended on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, numerous youths were still waiting to register.
He accused the EC of deliberately suppressing votes by denying these young citizens the opportunity to register.
Despite these setbacks, he emphasized that the youth remain determined to vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He further criticized the EC, led by Jean Mensa, for numerous errors in the provisional results of the registration exercise, claiming that without the NDC’s vigilance, these mistakes would have gone unnoticed.
He noted that the EC had to issue apologies and correct these errors, highlighting what he described as a pattern of incompetence.
Mr. Mohammed-Mustapha warned that such actions by the EC could have severe repercussions, potentially sparking unrest similar to that seen in neighbouring countries.
He stressed that the NDC would not tolerate any attempts to manipulate the voter transfer process by moving non-residents into the Bono East Region.
He vowed that the party would fiercely resist any such efforts by the NPP, declaring that they would give the EC a “showdown in Little Tokyo.”
In his interview with Classfmonline.com over the weekend, Mr. Mohammed-Mustapha reiterated the NDC’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process and warned against any attempts to undermine the democratic rights of Ghanaians.
