Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, says the Electoral Commission (EC) has the responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties for a free, fair and transparent elections on December 7.

He said the EC must listen to the concerns of all parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the voter’s register and take steps to address those issues for peace to prevail before, during and after the elections.

Mr Buah, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, was speaking to the media after the Western Region NDC marched through some principal streets of Sekondi-Takoradi to the Regional EC Office, at Sekondi, to present a petition on their concerns on alleged irregularities in the voter’s register.

The nationwide demonstration dubbed: “Enough is Enough,” by the NDC against the EC, was to drum home their concerns over some alleged errors in the voter’s register for redress.

He said, “This demonstration is to basically inform the Electoral Commission that they have a responsibility to execute free, fair and transparent elections, and also for the peace, security and stability of our country”.

The Deputy Minority Leader stated that the NDC believed that the voter’s register was unfit for electoral purposes, and that the EC must heed the party’s call and fix those problems.

“We need an independent audit of the register, because we have done it before and there is nothing to be afraid of. “The Electoral Commission’s responsibility cannot be

joked with, and they should not allow any political apparatchiks to influence them to jeopardise our democracy,” Mr Buah said.

Mr Joshua Ofori Prempeh, the Western Regional Deputy EC Director, who received the NDC’s petition on behalf of the Commission, said their concerns would be forwarded to the EC headquarters for action.

The demonstration was attended by NDC MPs in the Western Region, parliamentary candidates, regional, constituency and polling station executives and party supporters among others.
