The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its party agents to exercise heightened vigilance during the Electoral Commission’s (EC) forthcoming mop-up voter registration exercise, scheduled for August 1-3, 2024.

This exercise aims to register between 50,000 and 70,000 new voters, particularly targeting individuals who turned 18 after the recent limited voter registration and those who missed the previous opportunity.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, stressed the importance of vigilance, expressing concerns over the current voter register, which he described as “sick.”

He made these remarks in a post shared on social media on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

He pointed out issues such as stolen and un-retrieved Biometric Voter Registration laptops, unresolved questions about the EC’s figures, and potential gerrymandering.

The NDC has consistently called for a transparent and thorough audit of the entire voter register.

Dr. Boamah further urged NDC agents to diligently monitor the process, uphold the integrity of the exercise, and safeguard Ghana’s democracy.

His key points were:

• NDC calls for vigilance during EC’s mop-up voter registration exercise.

• The exercise aims to register 50,000 to 70,000 new voters.

• Concerns raised about the current voter register, stolen laptops, and unaddressed EC figures.

• NDC demands a transparent audit of the entire voter register.

• Party agents urged to monitor the process and protect democracy.
