The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections, John Dramani Mahama, has called on party members to exercise utmost vigilance as the polls approach.
In particular, Mr Mahama directed his message to the Greater Accra Regional NDC branch, urging them to ensure the appointment of competent polling agents.
Addressing NDC executives and key stakeholders during his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in Accra, Mahama stressed the significance of intensifying efforts to secure victory in the upcoming polls.
He emphasised the importance of providing adequate training to these individuals to enable them to fulfill their duties effectively.
“One of the key things in this election is vigilance, we can do all the campaigning we want, but if we are not vigilant on the day, and we don’t cover every single polling station with eagles’ eyes. You can do all the beautiful things you can, razzmatazz and in the end, you don’t achieve the target you want.”
He emphasised the need for party members to avoid any form of selectivity when making these appointments.
“So Greater Accra Region, we want you to cover all the polling stations with the best party agents. The election directorate, you are aware, is conducting some exercises. They’ve been conducting exams for election directors in their constituencies and the regions because we need the best people who understand the electoral system to be able to monitor the elections in the region.
“We should not be sentimental with these appointments and appoint the right people,” he advised.
In his remarks, Ashie Moore, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, unveiled a strategy to utilise drones for surveillance during the upcoming General elections.
This innovative approach aims to bolster the party’s electoral integrity by enhancing monitoring capabilities to deter any attempts at rigging.
With a target of over two million votes in the region, the NDC considers this initiative crucial for influencing the election outcome.
Mr. Moore further revealed ongoing preparations to train personnel in operating the drones, ensuring effective deployment when the time comes.
