The National Democratic Congress’ Ho Central parliamentary aspirant, Edem Kofi Kpotosu is leveraging skill development, job creation, and enhancing education policies in his attempt to win the upcoming parliamentary election.

He promises to implement the apprenticeship-to-startup policy by training masses of youth in various skills to enable them to derive a livelihood while creating wealth, reducing unemployment and ensuring job security.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of a donation exercise, Mr. Kpotosu explained that the policy is designed to provide all the necessary support, from finances to logistics, for qualified constituents to train in any skill of their choice.

“Apart from the nationwide NDC’s policy of apprenticeship, over here in Ho Central, we are stepping it up, that is ‘Apprenticeship to Startup’. So all those who want to go into apprenticeship, there will be a committee in charge that will take you to the master craftsmen”, he said.

Mr. Kpotosu said all trainees would be provided with the tools needed to immediately set up their enterprises after completing the training, within the stipulated time.

He added that the beneficiaries would have their capacity built in managerial skills which is essential to sustaining enterprises and maximising profit.

“After you have gone through the apprenticeship, there is a way we are going to set you up so that you start work. So, while you are learning the trade, you are not thinking of where to go and do your work. There is a place for you”, he noted.

Additionally, Mr. Kpotosu said he will introduce Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) in public schools from basic 1 to 3 to help develop the mental capacity of pupils at an early age.

He said the introduction of the system was coined to contribute to producing the requisite human resources for the evolving job market, it also seeks to create jobs for the youth.

He explained his office would employ instructors to teach the system designed to help children develop their mental arithmetic skills and improve their concentration, memory, and creativity in the schools.

“All the instructors will also be employed from the communities; it is a source of employment for the youth to serve as instructors and will also be paid at the end of every month with all their legal fees paid. That is a source of employment and at the same time, making the product available to set up the children within my constituency.

Mr Kptosu presented an autoclave machine to the Taviefe Deme Health Centre, and four horns to the Ho Market Information Center to augment their work.
