The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, says the party’s credibility while in office, in opposition and during the current campaign period will significantly contribute to victory in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, he said that unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which has repeatedly lied to Ghanaians about the economic crisis, the NDC acknowledges challenges and implements solutions to resolve them.
“Largely, one political party, the NDC, stands for conviction and we are fighting with the NPP, a party that largely stands for convenience. That’s what you’re seeing all over – a lack of capacity to be apologetic in the midst of the suffering.”
“They continue to gaslight the people and deceive the people. That really is not economic mismanagement at all. It’s all because of some external difficulties. That is a political party that does not believe in truth at all,” Mr Kwetey said.
He told host Evans Mensah that the NDC has been candid and continues to make realistic promises on policies including Free SHS and others that can be actualized to impact the lives of people positively.
Mr Kwetey emphasised that an NDC government is dedicated to “being a platform of credibility, telling you what our track record has been.
“Our track record is that in terms of what we achieved with limited resources over eight years. We never saw the cedi depreciate to the level that we have seen over the last eight years.”
“Also, for example, we tell you that on the question of education, we think that there are genuine concerns at the level of education in the free institutions.
“We want to ensure that once we come back, we bring all the stakeholders on board to have a proper conversation and see how those problems can be resolved. That’s a genuine promise.”
As such, the assurances being made to Ghanaians are pragmatic promises based on the experience and track record of the NDC, the General Secretary noted.
He accused the NPP of being obsessed with power and refusing to be genuine with Ghanaians.
Mr Kwetey noted that the NDC will not be complacent in its campaign and work to ensure that the NPP does not retain power in 2025.
