Founder and General Overseer of the Alabaster Prayer Ministry, Prophet Isaac Oduro, has slammed the government for still collecting the COVID-19 levy, although the health challenge is no longer a public health threat.

The man in a sermon delivered on Sunday, September 8, 2024, said God will punish the government for still maintaining the levy.

He said there were too many nuisance taxes while Ghanaians were struggling to survive.

To him, it was insensitive on the part of the government to still maintain the levy when COVID-19 was no longer a public health crisis, adding that he was not against taxes but against the failure of the government in using the taxes for projects that will benefit the people.

He warned that God will punish the government for taking Ghanaians through hard times and still imposing nuisance taxes on them.

‘’God will punish you because there is no COVID-19 and yet you are still collecting the levy. Those at the Jubilee House will pay the price. Whatever you are taking from Ghanaians, you will pay for it,’’ he said.

‘’I am not against the collection of taxes, but they should be used for something better. They collect our taxes but don’t use them prudently. If you collect the taxes and use them prudently, I would not complain. We want to pay our taxes and drive on good roads. Why are we still collecting the COVID-19 levy? Social distancing was stopped a long time ago. We greet each other now, and I don’t think there is anyone here with COVID-19. Unless they tell me there is something else happening for which they will still collect the levy. You can take offence to what I am saying; I don’t care.’’
