The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of deliberately targeting Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson in the botched ambulance procurement trial.

He alleged that the government’s actions were politically motivated and aimed at undermining Dr Forson.

Mr Gyamfi argued that no financial loss was caused until the current government chose not to clear the ambulances at the port, a decision he claims was made to fabricate a case against Dr Forson.

According to him, this move was part of a calculated effort to discredit and clear Dr Forson as a political obstacle.

The NDC spokesperson further asserted that if any financial loss had occurred, it should be attributed to the leadership of the current government.

He contended that their actions, not those of Dr Forson, were responsible for any fiscal damages.

During his appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, August 3, Mr Gyamfi emphasised that the government’s actions were driven by petty political motives.

He insisted that the case against Dr Forson was a clear example of politically charged persecution.

Mr Gyamfi stressed on his strong belief that the charges against Dr Forson were baseless and orchestrated by the government for political gain, rather than being rooted in genuine legal concerns.

“For me, no loss was occasioned under this transaction until the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government decided that for cheap politics under Agyeman-Manu decided to leave those medical supplies at the port without clearing them so that they could make a case of causing financial loss against Ato Forson,” he insisted.

The Court of Appeal on Tuesday, July 30, acquitted and discharged Dr. Forson and Mr Jakpa after being on trial for causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the State in a deal to procure ambulances for the Government of Ghana.

The 2:1 decision overturned the previous order from the trial court, which required Dr. Ato Forson and Jakpa to open their defence.

The decision has since been welcomed by the NDC and its supporters, who see it as a triumph for justice and a rejection of politically motivated prosecutions.

However, Attorney-General Godfred Dame has expressed his dissatisfaction with the verdict and plans to appeal at the Supreme Court.
