Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has indicated that he supports both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The most important thing he posited is the nation’s development.

The traditional ruler said the country needs to make progress and has therefore encouraged the political parties to run clean campaigns.

The Asantehene said this when the leadership of the NDC officially introduced the running mate Prof. Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to him.

He asked the party why it failed to introduce the former education minister to him after she had been appointed before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) selected Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He then admonished the running mate to support the NDC’s candidate as he campaigns to be the next president.

“I heard of Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s selection to support John Dramani Mahama, but I’m surprised the party didn’t bring her to me, given that she was chosen before the NPP chose their Vice-Presidential candidate.

“I met her at Cape Coast during the Fetu Afahye and asked why she hadn’t been introduced to me, and she promised that it would happen. I’m glad they did the right thing. “As Ghanaians, we all want a leader who cares about the people of Ghana. The people who follow you believe you will back John Dramani Mahama for president again.”

We are requesting that you run a clean campaign and produce sound policies to lead this nation. Although it is true that Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s chosen candidate, is the son of Asanteman, I would want to officially state that each and every one of you is my child, and I am rooting for you all. Development is what we seek,” Otumfuo said.

The NPP has already chosen Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and while he is Asanteman’s son, I can assure you that you are all my children, and I support each and every one of you. “What we want is development,” Otumfuo said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, on her part, appealed to the traditional ruler to bless her ahead of the elections.

“I was recently nominated to support John Dramani Mahama, and I am eager to do so. I am glad you embraced me and guided me. This is John Dramani Mahama’s second contest, and I know I should have come earlier to introduce myself, but I beg your pardon for not doing so.

“I am here to seek good guidance and advice from you, and I know you are a father for all and will not hesitate to caution me when I am going wrong,” she said.
